THE VINCENZO “JIMMY” & ANNA DE PINTO FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Emigrating from Italy and becoming proud citizens of the United States, Jimmy (as he was known) & Anna never abandoned their Italian culture and traditions, nor ceased their devotion to the Madonna, the patron saint of Molfetta, the city of their birth.

Similar to the many Italian-Americans who left their homeland to start new lives, Jimmy & Anna loved their adopted country and valued the opportunities available. Jimmy served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Anna worked as a seamstress for over 70 years. Both were proud to be among the tens of thousands of Italian-Americans who helped build the United States during the 20th century. Although higher education was never available to them, they believed that education was essential, and secured the future of the individual.

Originally founded in honor of Vincenzo “Jimmy” De Pinto, a Past President of the Society, the award has grown to honor other deceased members of the De Pinto family who were active in supporting the Society. This includes Jimmy’s wife Anna, an Honorary President and Matriarch of the Society, his oldest son Aldo, who also served as President of the Society, and sons-in-law Jim Emmer & Donald Zampella. All of these individuals held strong belief in Our Lady, had deep love of family and country and were widely respected for their integrity & ethnic pride.
